Well, tyres have to withstand a lot during their life, from plenty of contact with oils and chemicals on the roads and exposure to the elements, compressing and expanding endlessly and remain continually exposed to extreme climatic changes. Tyre makers are aware of this, so they use anti-ageing chemicals to lengthen the tyre life. These chemicals are best-effective when the tyre is in use, and the rubber is permitted to expand. In case, a tyre is not in use for a long time, then the rubber does not stand a chance to stretch, so it may begin to crack.

When sidewall of the tyre cracks, they have a lower capability to handle striking increases in load while cornering.
